Expensive Salt Water Fish!
- At
nearly $1.8 million, the Pacific Bluefin fish is the most expensive
saltwater fish. Sold at Tokyo’s Tsukiji Market auction, the 222-kilogram
fish became the property of Co’s president, Kiyoshi Kimura in 2013.
- The Bluefin is prized for its tender pink meat, which is used in sushi and sashimi dishes.
- Its
increasing rarity due to overfishing is also skyrocketing market prices
an area of great concern to environmentalists who fear that the fish
will go extinct.
- Despite
this, there is a ready market for the fish in Japan and the crown for
the most expensive saltwater fish will soon be taken if the Pacific
Bluefin population continues dwindling.
