THE DAY “BUTTER CHICKEN” STOOD ME STILL

I still remember the day when i had my first butter chicken. It was at a dinner party hosted by a couple of relatives, reason for which i am still yet to discover. That night was the one of the best nights of my life.

I was merely 11years old back then. My day started out with the daily schedule of going to school and coming back home after the classes, and then going for tuitions in the evening. I was this kid who hated chicken, dint even like eggs only for the reason that they came out of a chicken. Except the fact that i loved sea food, i was still mostly a veggie.

Now coming back to that unforgettable night, I was sitting there in one corner of the table and was trying to avoid the most hated bird of my life. After the entrees it was time for the main course. The main course was served on my plate. I couldn't recognize the dish. For once it looked like fish served with some very spicy curry. I wouldn't lie even if i wanted to, it appeared incredibly fresh with very bright vivid colours. I took a couple of parathas and started devouring this fascinating dish. After half a dozen of parathas i asked my mom what this dish was; and she replied to my shock that it was “Butter Chicken”.

It jolted me to an extent that i literally choked a good piece of chicken. I was gasping for air and my mom pulled me by my stomach from behind to release me of my agony. She said it was because of the butter that was blended with the chicken that helped me release my choking easily.

In spite of the dish nearly killing me that evening, to this day “Butter Chicken” has become my favourite dish. Today after a decade wherever i go, whichever restaurant i choose, i order butter chicken. People ask me, knowing the fact that it nearly killed me and also that chicken never being my first choice, what had changed my heart so drastically. To them i answer - “YES!! It was the chicken that sickened me at first; but then the butter in it made me a nutter about Butter Chicken”.
